"The Canadian" 2007 was the best ever, and we are really excited about 2008. Take a look further down for the exciting changes and improvements we have planned for this year.
Ontario's only Iron 226 Triathlon & Duathlon successfully incorporates the Iron 226 Triathlon & Duathlon, the Iron 113 Triathlon & Duathlon, the Iron 113 SwimCycle, the Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon, the Try A Tri, the Super Sprint Triathlon, a Kayak Triathlon, and the Wylie Ryan Kids' Surf and Turf.
It is a triathlon and duathlon day like no other!
We invite you back, or for the first time, to participate, to volunteer, or to watch the amazing Iron 226 race and all the other races that are part of this multi-sport day. More than 1,100 racers enjoyed the 2007 event and we expect even more in 2008. Check out what many of last year's participants had to say in the testimonials section below.
All races enjoy traffic free courses and are spectator friendly. The day culminates with post race meals and celebrations on site, where the stories and videos of the day are re-lived. The Iron 226 Awards Breakfast follows the next day.
We hope you include "The Canadian" in your 2008 event plans - you won't be disappointed!

Each 2008 Somersault Triathlon, Duathlon, and Kayak Tri Series race (except the Super Sprint and the Try A Tri) is part of the Champions Challenge. If you are in one of these races, you automatically score points in the Champions Challenge.Check out the Champions Challenge program at http://www.somersault.ca/championshipstri.htm.

bytown storm team championship
Who has the best Sprint Triathlon Team in the East? We will find out at the 2008 "Canadian Sprint Triathlon". One team will be pronounced the Eastern Sprint Triathlon Team Champions for 2008.
The Bytown Storm Triathlon Team has laid down the gauntlet and issued a challenge to all triathlon clubs and teams out there to vie for club/team supremacy at the Sprint Triathlon distance. This Ottawa based club has some really fast young guys and girls, and they think they have what it takes to beat the best – and raise funds for their favourite charity too.
We invite your club or team to take up the Bytown Storm Challenge and enter your team in the Bytown Storm Eastern Triathlon Team Championship. Here’s how it works.
Rules and Procedures:
- Pick a team (or teams) of 4 triathletes – with a least 1 female team member – from your club/program.
- Enter each of the team members in the Canadian Sprint Triathlon.
- Notify terry@somersault.ca of your intention to enter a team.
- Select your team’s favourite charity.

- Obtain and complete a team entry form/score card at Race Kit Pick Up.
- Compete in and finish (all team members) the Canadian Sprint Triathlon.
- Record and total your team members’ place results on the team entry form/score card after the race.
- Submit your team entry form/score card to the awards presenters.
- Wait for the results to be announced.
clubs of the event
Fitness Dynamics
We are pleased to welcome Fitness Dynamics , as a "Club of the Event". A Club of the Event is a club whose members provide worker support to the event, in return for a donation to the club.
Fitness Dynamics offers coaching built around the different training requirements and physical and mental capabilities of the athlete. It utilizes a multi-sport approach to coaching athletes in order to maximize training. We cross train athletes during the general preparation phase, in an annual plan. Athletes develop an aerobic base and increase muscle strength while doing other sports. We believe it important to cross train in order to add diversity, while not diverting the athletes from their sport of choice. Have a look at our programs, at www.fitnessdynamics.ca, we are certain you will find one that is right for yo u.

try a tri challenge
It's back - and its for anyone who has always wanted to "Try a Tri" or those who don't want to be too competitive. Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes are welcome in this event.
super sprint triathlon
This category and race will be separate from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first timer, once a year novice or recreational participant. The Super Sprint is a race geared to those who are a bit more serious or competitive.
swimcycle
The SwimCycle is back this year as a result of its success last year. Many have requested this race, because their knees, ankles and/or hips are not handling the running very well.
The SwimCycle consists of the swim and the cycle portion of the Iron 226 and Iron 113 Triathlons. SwimCycle participants will start with the Triathlon participants, but will exit after the bike for the very short run to the Finish Line.
kayak triathlon
We are excited about the Kayak Triathlon and its potential for growth. We believe there are many who would like to join the triathlon scene, but would like to do it in their favourite sport - paddling. We invite you to bring your kayak (of any shape or description) and join us on Mooney's Bay, the home of the Rideau Canoe Club, for the newest triathlon on the scene.
You will enjoy a Mooney's Bay Beach start and finish on the paddle leg, which will head down the Bay towards Black's Rapids and the 2Km turn around. It then returns to the beach where participants join the other triathletes and duathletes in the T-Zone, for the cycle and the run.
5 & 10km runs
We have added a recreational (or competitive) 5 and 10km run to the Canadian program this year. We hope this will allow many of those who come to support the triathlon and duathlon participants to take part, as well as offer a running opportunity to those who would just prefer to run. For more information on the run, and to enter, click here. You can also enter the run using the entry form above.
iron 226 time limit
We have imposed a 16 hour time limit on the iron 226 triathlon and a 15 1/2 hour time limit on the iron 226 duathlon. In addition to these limits, the swim course will close at 2 hours, and the cycle course will close at 10 hours. Participants still on those courses at those times will be required to withdraw from the competition.
iron 113 time limit
The time limit on the Half Iron 113 is the same
as for the Iron 226 race - so effectively, there isn't a time
limit.
iron 113 & iron 226 age requirement
In the Iron and Half Iron Distance races, entry is only open to those 19 years of age or older.
We cannot allow anyone younger than 19 to compete at these distances. We recommend
that younger participants compete in the Sprint Triathlon, Try A Tri, Super Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Duathlon, or Kayak Triathlon.

championchip
timing
We use ChampionChip Timing. This
timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip
Bracelet on your ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains
a computer chip that allows you to be timed. No chip
= no time.
You
are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet
on race morning from the timing people at the
Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line. Do this at least 30 minutes
before your race - earlier is better! Races will not
be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelet.
You
must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately
after you cross the finish line. You are responsible
for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.
your
results - Age as of December 31, 2008
Your personal results will be posted within 20 minutes of your finish. Check the results as soon as you can,. If you have finished in the top 3 in your age, weight, or relay category, go immediately to the Awards Table to claim your Award Medal 'Add On'.
If you find mistakes in the results, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct. Have the results people make changes before you leave the event site, because they may not be able to do it after race day.
Results will be posted at www.somersault.ca the evening of the race.

race updates
We will email 3 weekly Canadian Newsletters to participants with the latest updates prior to the race. These newsletters are very important as they will identify changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.
Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Canadian Newsletter through.
