The 17th Annual Graham Beasley Triathlon & Duathlon is a fitting tribute to Graham Beasley, a fine athlete, husband, father and gentleman who left us too soon. Out of respect for Graham, all participants will participate in the Graham Beasley event, adhering to Graham's personal philosophy:

Compete hard, play fair and applaud and respect fellow participants

We offer an event for everyone. We have the Try a Tri for the beginner or recreational participant. the Super Sprint Triathlon for the speed people, the Olympic Triathlon, and the Iron 113 Tri or Du. We have one of the most awesome bike rides you will find in Ontario, are for those who are slightly crazier. The Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon are also still there for those who are in between.

Look too, for the SwimCycle and Swim races - The SwimCycle race concept will be offered in the Sprint and Iron 113, for those whose legs don't like running, or who are preparing for a longer event and just want to test themselves. The swim will be over the Iron 113 1.932km distance.

The swim portion of the Graham Beasley is very popular because of the shallow clear water of the Mississippi River. If you are a bit leery about swimming in a group or in open water this one is for you - you can actually stand and rest if you need to!

The Champions Challenge program is for those who participate in more than one Somersault event, and who might be interested in seeing how you stack up against others in overall, gender, and age group categories in the Somersault Triathlon & Duathlon Series world.

Each 2010 Somersault event features Champions Challenge Races in Duathlon and Triathlon Divisions. In the Graham Beasley Triathlon & Duathlon, all races except the Try A Tri count for Champions Challenge points in the adult categories. If you are in one of these races, you automatically score points in the Champions Challenge.

In the Junior Challenge, the Sprint Triathlon and Super Sprint count for points, for anyone 19 or under, and the longer races can count for those 16 and older.

Check out the Champions Challenge program at http://www.somersault.ca/championshipstri.htm.

We are proud to continue to build the Junior Program in 2010.  This program is designed to encourage those 12 years and older to participate, by including 2 year categories beginning at 13 & under, up to 18-19.  Athletes in these categories will feel comfortable in Somersault events, and are automatically ranked in the Junior Champions Challenge.

relays
Triathlon Relays are a fun feature of the GB.  It's a great way to ease into the season or go 'all out' at one discipline. Get a threesome (or a twosome) together for some fun and fitness!

try a try challenge

It's back - and its for anyone who has always wanted to "Try a Tri" or those who don't want to be too competitive . Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes are welcomed in this event.

super sprint triathlon
This category and race will be a separate race from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first timer, once a year, or recreational participant. The Super Sprint is geared to those who are a bit more serious but only want to go short and fast.

the iron 113 and sprint swimcycle
We are offering the SwimCycle again, as a result of participant demand.  Many have requested this race, because their knees, ankles and/or hips are not handling the running very well. Others like it as a tune up for an upcoming full length triathlon.

There are 2 different distance SwimCycle races, which consist of the swim and the cycle portion of the Sprint and Iron 113 Triathlons.  Those that enter these races will head to the Finish Line after the cycle leg instead of completing the run leg.

iron 113 swim

For the first time this year, we are offering a solo swim.  This allows those with strong swimming backgrounds to duke it out with the triathletes in the water.  Swimmers will be timed after they exit the water, run through the T-Zone and cross the Finish Line.

course maps & how to view

Somersault event maps are featured through the Google Maps service.  Participants may easily view course maps using your Explorer or Firefox browsers.

2000, 1500, 500 & 200m Triathlon and SwimCycle, Swim

All swims are on out and back courses in the clear, clean and shallow Mississippi River.  The Iron 113 and Olympic distance swims will be double out and back courses. The starts of all swims are in mid-river right downtown at the docks across the street from the Town Hall. Swimmers start in mid-river in waist deep water on a smooth flat rock bottom. The water is very shallow for the first and last 300 metres. Check out the map for your swim course.

Please Note: We recommend that you wear water socks or light footwear in which you can swim. There are a few Zebra Mussels in the shallow water at the start, and socks prevent the possibility of tiny cuts from those little buggers when you step on them. Also, please avoid scraping bottom on your swim strokes, as you can touch bottom and may receive cuts from the mussels.

In the first half of each swim, swimmers head into a very light current keeping the buoys on your right, and then return with the current (the current can be handled without difficulty by all swimmers!). The respective swim turns are at 50, 200, and 450 metres. The swimmers finish under Bridge St., exiting at the T-Zone between the Town Hall and the Youth Centre. There are stone steps leading from the shallow water exit to the T-Zone.

The 1500m and 2000m swims will turn a second time at a buoy right near the Bridge St. bridge and swim another loop of the course. The 1500m swimmers turn at the 200m buoy on the first loop and the 450m buoy on the second loop before heading to the swim exit. The 2000m swimmers turn at the 450m buoy on each loop, before heading to the swim exit.

21 km Sprint Triathlon, Sprint SwimCycle & Try A Tri Cycle

general information

All entrants are required to be familiar with the "General Information", and the "What's New" information sections.  There is some information in these sections that may not be on this event information page, so please click and read the appropriate buttons on the left - even if you are familiar with the event, as there can be changes!  It is a good idea to re-read event information the week before the event to be sure nothing has changed.

If your kids, spouse, family members or friends are spectating, why not volunteer them as officials/volunteers and let have some fun too!  Email us ahead of time if you will help, so we can assign you - info@somersault.ca. For more information on our volunteer program, please go to http://www.somersault.ca/volunteers.htm.

Clubs, teams and non-profit organizations are invited to inquire about our volunteer donation program - a donation in return for a group of members volunteering for the day.

race info updates
We will email 3 weekly Graham Beasley Newsletters to participants with the latest updates prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
