Terry Fox Athletic Facility, Ottawa, Ontario

Jump Menu   introduction   registration information   race services   race day information   general information

Its the 27th anniversary of the National Capital Triathlon - the East's second oldest triathlon!

We were very pleased with the enthusiastic turnout and record numbers in 2007 and are confident that with some of the changes we have made, 2008 will see the event continue to grow.

We are going to return to the Terry Fox Athletic Facility, West Field where we held the event last year. We think it is a great venue for the event and it shortens those dreaded runs from swim to T-Zone and T-Zone to bike mount. Look for the Super Sprint and the return of the SwimCycle. Enjoy the stadium atmosphere, convenient parking and the great urban, traffic free courses.

For you paddlers, we have the Kayak Triathlon - a paddle-cycle-run event - back for another year in a great paddling venue. The Couples Challenge is also back again, for those couples who want to visit Ottawa on the Civic Holiday Weekend, for sightseeing and exercise.   There is lots to do and enjoy in the National Capital.

camp quality - "lifting the spirits of children with cancer"
We are pleased and proud to announce that Camp Quality is the Official Charity of the National Capital Triathlon & Duathlon. We encourage you to visit their booth on site. Some of the camp's kids and their advocates will be helping out at the Finish Line and at Water stations on the course, so say hi!

Camp Quality Eastern Ontario is a non-profit, volunteer organization that, in addition to our signature week-long camping experience, provides year-round support for children with cancer (receiving treatment or in remission) and their families. It's web site is www.campquality.com.

Our program provides children with the opportunity to try both new and familiar activities, make new friends and gain memories that will last forever! This year’s camp takes place from August 9th to 5th. Check us out at www.campquality.org!

Help Send A Kid To Camp
Our goal this year, is to see if we can raise enough money through the National Capital, to send at least one kid to camp. The cost of the camp is $1500 per child - and that is with all camp staff acting as volunteers. relays
Triathlon Relays are a fun feature of the National Capital. Get a threesome (or a twosome) together for some fun and fitness!

try a tri challenge
It's back - and its for anyone who has always wanted to "Try a Tri" or those who don't want to be too competitive . Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes are welcome too.

super sprint triathlon
This category and race will be separate from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first timer, once a year novice or recreational participant. The Super Sprint race is geared to those who are more serious, and only want to go short and fast.

swimcycle

The SwimCycle is back this year as a result of its success last year.  Many have requested this race, because their knees, ankles and/or hips are not handling the running very well.

The SwimCycle consists of the swim and the cycle portion of the Olympic and Sprint Triathlons.  Those that enter this category, will be timed after the cycle leg. SwimCycle participants will start with the Triathlon participants, but will exit after the bike for the very short run to the Finish Line.

kayak triathlon
We are excited about the kayak triathlon. We believe there are many who would like to join the triathlon scene, but would like to do it in their favourite sport - paddling - on top of the water instead of in it. We invite you to bring your kayak (of any shape or description this year) and join us on Mooney's Bay, the home of the Rideau Canoe Club, for the newest triathlon on the scene.

You will enjoy a Mooney's Bay Beach paddle start and finish. The paddle will be up the Bay towards Black's Rapids to the 2Km turn around and back to the beach, where you join the other triathletes and duathletes on the cycle and the run.

couples challenge and how it works
We are really excited about the Couples Challenge. A Couples Team consists of one male and one female team member. Each member enter either the Sprint or Olympic Triathlons as individuals. The combined total of their finish places, in whichever race each enters, determines the score team score. The couple with the lowest team score is the Couples Challenge Champion.

To officially enter the Couples Challenge (you are already entered in your individual age category) you will obtain a Couples Challenge Score sheet on race day, after the races.

After you both have finished your race, you will complete the Couples Challenge Score sheet, taking your places from the official posted results. You then submit the Score sheet to the awards people - and wait for the Couples Challenge results to be announced at the awards ceremony. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented to the top 3 couples teams.

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races.  This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on your ankle (Anklet) during the race.  This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.  No chip = no time or place. You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelet. You must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

For moor information on volunteering, check out http://www.somersault.ca/volunteers.htm.

race info updates
We will email 3 weekly National Capital Newsletters to participants, with the latest updates, prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
