general information for kids races

wylie ryan kids' series events
Our Wylie Ryan Kids' Series events meet the needs of youngsters that want to enjoy fun running and swimming/wading, at their own speed and who are 12 years old or under.  The programs emphasize and recognize participation.  There is no mimimum age, although the races are most apprpriate for participants 6 years of age and older. Strollers may be used for children who are younger.

The events encourage - and in fact require - parent involvement.  This involvement will be for the safety and encouragement of all participants. Every participant in a Wylie Ryan Kids' Series race must be accompanied to the event by a parent/guardian to the event. One adult may accompany several children.

Younger particpants can be accompanied during the race by an adult (at no cost). One adult may accompany several children.

At the moment there are 7 Wylie Ryan Kids' Series races, although it is anticipated that more may be added.

awards and prizes
In keeping with the participation theme, all participants will receive finisher's medal at the finish line. Although each kid will wear a timing chip and receive a finish time, we do not provide prizes for place of finish.

Results wil be posted for information only. All participants are eligible to receive a draw prize if they are lucky and if they are in attendance for the draw.

championchip timing bracelet
We use Championchip Timing at all Somersault races.  This timing system requires that each participants wear a ChampionChip Timing Bracelet on their ankle (Anklet) during the race.  This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed. No chip = no time.

You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at their tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better.  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelets.

You must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost of your chip if it is not returned - and it is expensive!.

food and refreshments
Refreshments are provided to participants and volunteers at all events. They are served following the race, and kids must have their race number to be eligible.

courses and course measurement
Courses are measured by bicycle odometer.

volunteers
All events are dependent on volunteer support. If you are not running yourself, we would appreciate your offer of support on race day.

There are no refunds for any reason, and the entry is non-transferable.
